Year 6's Stations of the Cross service, which took place on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings to the Year 6 parents and KS1 and KS2 respectively.
Despite both Year 6 teachers being new to the school and having not seen this service take place here, I can honestly say that, in all my years being associated with St Edmund's, it was the best Stations of the Cross I have seen. This was led and organised by Ms Freitas, who brilliantly added some poignant, beautiful touches to further enhance the feeling of sorrow and prayerfulness to the service. The choir, led by Mrs Pope, were outstanding and pitch-perfect in their accompaniment to the retelling of the story and the readers and actors were loud, clear and appropriately sombre. And, because Year 6 set the right tone, the atmosphere from the rest of the school, in both services, was impeccably prayerful and respectful and, thus, understanding of the sadness of the story and Jesus' love for us.
Well done to the children who took part in the Dance Festival at Millfield theatre. They had a great time and were brilliant with their performance. They all enjoyed the experience of performing on a stage in a theatre filled with an audience.
Here is a video of their performance during the dress rehearsal.
Members of Code Club went on a trip to Tower Bridge. We first went to the Engine Rooms and our guide, Isabel, told us the history of Tower Bridge (we found out it will be 130 years old in June!) and how it works. Then we walked across the high-level glass-bottomed walkways. Some of us didn't like that at all! We even saw a helicopter coming in to land to take part in the Ceremony of the Constable's Dues.
After lunch in a classroom in one of the 'towers', we put together models of one of the bascules to understand how they work and then we went on Scratch to write the code to raise the bascules. When we left, we were lucky enough to see some of the Royal Marines marching past the Tower of London at the end of the Ceremony.
It was a very exciting trip!
Well done to the winners of the inter-house competition that was won
by St. Patrick’s!
Runners up were St. George’s, in 3rd place St. Andrew’s and 4th place St. David’s.
It was a great afternoon, the sun was out and all of KS2 had fun!
Well done to the Year 5 and 6 boys football team who played their 3rd round in the Enfield PE League at Power League. They did very well, they won against Edmonton County 1-0, but lost against Highfield. They played really well and could have scored many goals against Highfield and Edmonton County! Our goalie made some fantastic saves- well done!
There can be no doubt that the highlight of this week was World Book Day. Everyone was so impressed with all the effort you and your children went to dress them up as their favourite book characters or characters from stories written by female authors. The children (and the staff) really looked fantastic, and you can see photos and a video starring Mrs Pope as Baby Shark.
Well done to the High 5 Netball team who played at Latymer School for the League. They played 3 matches; Raynham, Wilbury and Hazelbury. They all played brilliantly as a team, making some great passes and creating great goals. We won against Raynham 4-I and Wilbury 4-0, but we lost against Hazelbury 7-3.
Well done to the girls in Year 5 and 6 who played football in the Enfield League. They played two games at Hazelbury, they won against Starksfield 4- 1 and unfortunately lost against Hazelbury 1-0, but not without putting on a fantastic fight in trying to score goals! Well done to our forward striker for scoring a 4 goals, a great team effort they all played brilliantly.
Children from KS1 went to Lee Valley Athletics Centre to take part in some Multi-Skills activities. They took part in Circus skills, long jump, boccia and new age curling to name a few. The children had great fun learning new skills. Well done to all the children that took part!
All year groups walk the daily mile between 8.40-8.50am on a daily routine as they come into school. Year 5 are in the lead with walking the most laps in 10 minutes. Which Year group can beat them?
Well done to the children in Year 5 and 6 for taking part in the football tournament held at Power League. They played 5 matches, playing against different teams in the borough. We won against Oakthorpe 1-0, lost against Raglan 1-0 and drew our other matches against Eldon, Kingfisher and Forty Hill. All the team played extremely well with the goalie making some fantastic saves! Well done to the goal scorers. They were great goals!
